Erbium:YAG laser is an ablative resurfacing laser often considered more precise and less thermally aggressive than CO2, since its wavelength is strongly absorbed by water with relatively limited surrounding thermal spread.
It comes in two genuinely different formats that should be treated as separate decisions: Fully ablative Erbium removes the entire top skin layer in one pass.
It delivers the most dramatic single-session resurfacing result but comes with the longest recovery — typically 7-14 days of redness, swelling and peeling — and is usually done once rather than repeated.
Fractional Erbium treats the skin in a grid of micro-columns rather than the whole surface, covering roughly 5-30% of the treated area per pass. Downtime is much shorter (roughly 2-5 days), but it takes 2-4 sessions spaced weeks apart to reach a comparable result.
Ask your clinic explicitly which version they are offering before booking, since protocol, downtime and price differ significantly between the two. Moxie has not tried either format personally.
